Materials
5 large red apples
Sharp knife
String
Scissors
Peanut butter
Plastic or wooden spoons
Birdseed
Instructions
1. Tape the four boxes closed.
2. Cut out a large circle on any untaped side of each box.
3. Put a piece of poster board over each circle and cut it to fit that side of the
box. Tape one edge to the box, so that it can be lifted much like you would
lift the lid of a washing machine.
4. Label two of the boxes "washer." Label the other two boxes "dryer."
5. Place the four boxes in the Dramatic Play area, so that the washers have the
circle on top and the dryers have the circle facing front.
6. Put a small table at one end of the boxes. Put the change machine, empty
soap boxes, and softener containers on it.
7. Put baskets, hangers, and clothes at the other end of the washers and dryers.
8. Line up a few chairs against the wall and place magazines nearby. The other
furniture in the area can be used as a clothes-folding area.
9. Label the entrance to this area "The Wash and Dry." Encourage the children
to play in the laundromat!
More to do
Math: Encourage the children to sort the clothes by color and match socks.
