Materials

sensory table and tubs

plastic toy figures of animals that live in the snow (polar bears, moose,

wolves, seals, walrus, penguins, deer)

small plastic shovels and scoops

snow

mittens

clothespins

Instructions

1. Talk about animals that live in the snow. What features do the animals
have that help them live in the cold?
2. Place the animal figures and small shovels and scoops in the sensory
table.
3. Scoop snow from outside into tubs and add the snow into the sensory
table.
4. Provide mittens for the children to wear while they play.
5. Have a designated place for children to hang the mittens when they are
finished wearing them. Provide pinch-type clothespins for children to
work on fine motor and self-help skills.

map or globe with stickers or wipe-off markers.
