1. Using masking tape, form animal tracks on your classroom or gym floor. You can form the tracks with tape or copy tracks you've drawn on paper and then tape to the floor. Begin tracks on one side of the room and work them toward the opposite wall. Let them zigzag and cross each other. 2. Tracks should end at the opposite wall, where the children will find a picture of the animal hung at their eye level. Remember that a human is an animal also. 3. Instruct children to follow a set of tracks to an animal picture. After the children name the animal, ask them if they can show you how they think this animal would move? What would it eat? Where would it live? Can they make a sound like this animal picture? 4. At circle time, share information on each animal with the children. Record children's remarks and discoveries on a piece of paper to be posted next to each animal picture. More to do More science: You can ask each child to adopt an animal until next class. Assign each child an animal and ask him to find out one fact about his animal. During the next class, he can share his knowledge with everyone. Have an encyclopedia on hand in case someone forgets. The new facts can be added to your lists posted next to each animal.
