Materials

Large pieces of cardboard

2 clothespins, spring-type

Newsprint or other paper

Tag board letters

Crayon pieces with paper removed

Instructions

What to do
1. Clip the newsprint to the cardboard using the clothespins.
2. Have the children lift the paper, insert several letters, and return the cover sheet.
3. The children can use the crayon on its side to rub from top to bottom, left to right.
4. They will notice the letters appearing on the top sheet of paper.
More to do
Language: Put magnetic letters on the side of a file cabinet or on a refrigerator. Encourage children
to spell their names.
More art: Use a number of different colored crayons for an artistic effect.
Science: Collect leaves and do leaf rubbings using the same process as the alphabet rubbings.
