1. This is a great activity to do at the end of the year after you have gone
over the entire alphabet. Celebrate the alphabet with an alphabet party
of centers!
2. About a week before the alphabet party, send home a note asking that
children wear clothes with letters on them on the specific day.
3. Before the children arrive, decorate the classroom with all kinds of
alphabet decorations.
4. In the art area, provide alphabet letter cutouts for children to make
picture-sound collages.
5. In the Literacy Station, have children pick one letter and find pictures in
magazines that begin with that sound (for example, couch, cat, and car).
6. Set up an alphabet reading center with alphabet books.
7. Play musical alphabet (like musical chairs) using foam alphabet letters
for children to stand on. Play music and as you stop the music, call out a
letter. See if the children can recognize the letter they are standing on.
Play the game without removing any letters so that all the children can
continue playing.
8. At the sensory table, encourage the children to form each of the
alphabet letters with the playdough.
9. Provide alphabet pretzels and cookies for snack. Encourage the children
to use the alphabet foods to spell out their names. Use the pretzel and
cookie letters to distinguish the beginning sounds of words.
10. End the party by reading one of the alphabet books.
