Instructions
1. Start on a Monday. Tell the children that today is Monday and write the word on a strip of paper.
2. Talk about what is special about Mondays. For example, it's the first day of the school week, there may be some special activities or snacks that happen on Monday, and so on.
3. Establish certain things that you or the school always does on Monday, such as music, art, or special food at lunch.
4. Encourage the children to copy the word Monday and decorate it with little pictures showing what happens on Mondays.
5. The next day, do the same activity with Tuesday, and so on.
6. After a number of weeks, the children will be able to identify each day of the week.
7. On Fridays, talk about Saturday; on Mondays, talk about Sunday.
8. Encourage the children to make up sentences about each day of the week. Challenge them to come up with ideas that begin with the same letter as the day of the week. For example: On Mondays we meet our friends in school (Monday, meet), on Tuesdays we take the bus to school (Tuesday, take), and so on.
9. Another idea is to ask them to name foods with the same letter of the day of the week. For example, Monday: macaroni, Tuesday: turkey, and so on.
