* January is It's Okay to Be Different Month.
1. Draw (or cut out from magazines) people in a variety of shapes, colors,
and sizes. Back each picture with felt and place a red heart sticker on the
back of each person.
2. Read the poem below and put the appropriate person on the flannel
board.
Some people are short, (put image of short person on board)
Some people are tall. (put up tall person)
Some people have big feet, (put up a clown)
Some people's feet are small. (put up a baby)
Some people are heavy, (put up a weight lifter)
Some people are light. (put up a ballet dancer)
Some people's skin is brown, (put a brown-skinned person)
Some people's skin is white. (put up a white-skinned person)
Some people have brown eyes, (put up a person with brown eyes)
Some people's eyes are blue. (put up a person with blue eyes)
All people are different
This is very true,
But inside each person
I think this is very smart
Beats the same red human heart.
3. Flip over all the people on the board, showing the hearts attached to the
back of the images.
4. Take a poll to see what kind of differences the children have, such as eye
color, hair color or texture, who has lost a tooth, and so on.
5. In the end, give a heart to each child.
