Instructions

l Take photos of each child with a digital camera and print them on a color
printer.
What to Do
1. Read the book Mary Wore Her Red Dress and Henry Wore His Green Sneakers
by Merle Peek to the children.
2. Reread the book and ask the children to help say the words. Invite the children
to act out the story.
3. Explain that the children are going to make their own book, and that they will
be the authors, illustrators, and characters in the book.
4. Attach photos of each child to different sheets of paper. Type or handwrite
under each child's picture "[Child's name] is wearing [color] [clothing item]."
Have the child help choose what he wants to write about. Allow for creative
license. The children may want to say "truck shirt," "car shoes," "striped shirt,"
"blue jeans," or "flower pants."
5. Use a binder or string to collect the children's pages together into a book.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Did the children participate in at least part of the song/rhyme and help tell the
story?
l Can the children indicate what they are wearing and name the color of what
they are wearing?
l Can the children discuss the characters in Mary Wore Her Red Dress and
Henry Wore His Green Sneakers?
