Instructions

1. Draw a line on the blacktop and write each letter of the alphabet on the line using large letters.

2. Have the children stand on one side of the ABC line. Sing the "Alphabet Song" and step on each letter as you say it.

3. One at a time, ask the children to say their name and identify the first letter of their name. As they identify their letter, they stand in rows behind that letter in the line.

4. When all of the children are standing in rows, count how many are standing behind each letter.

5. Discuss which letter has the most children and which has the fewest.

6. Do the activity again using last names.
