Instructions

1. Engage the children in a discussion about the seasons. Ask the children
what each season feels and looks like. Challenge the children to think
of various terms that describe characteristics of the seasons. Write these
terms down on a sheet of chart paper, separating them by season.
2. Tell the children they are going to play a game called "Seasons."
3. Recite the following rhyme to the children. After each verse, challenge
the children to say the name of the season the verse describes.
The Seasons Song by Anonymous
It's hot outside!
Let's go to the lake.
What a lot of splashing
Our jumping in will make!
It's starting to get cool outside.
Leaves are blowing all around
In lots of pretty colors.
Let's rake them into piles on the
ground.
Brr! I'm so chilly.
Look at all this snow!
Let's put on coats and scarves
And a-sledding we will go!
The birds are coming back.
The flowers are starting to bloom.
Listen to the rain and thunder
Go trickle and ka-boom!
4. After the children identify the season described by each verse, ask the children
how they figured out the correct season.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children associate various terms and ideas with specific seasons?
l Can the children identify the seasons described in the different verses of the
rhyme?
