Instructions

1. To make one set of pattern squares, use a paper cutter to cut out a large selection of 1 1/2 " squares from six different wallpaper pattern pages. (Wallpaper is pretty durable, so a set of pattern squares should last at least a school year with normal use.)2. Make a variety of sets of pattern squares so many children can work on the same activity.

3. Store each set in a zipper-closure bag.

4. Have each child dump the contents of the bag into a shoebox. This will keep the pieces contained, yet will allow the child to search for the desired wallpaper square.

5. Give each child a piece of construction paper. Help the child start by putting a designated AB pattern on the left-hand side of the construction paper.

6. Encourage the children to finish the pattern. The child is done when he reaches the other side of the paper.

7. The child can repeat the process with another set of pattern squares, or can try an ABC pattern in the next row.
