Materials
- large piece of butcher paper or construction paper
- tempera paint (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple)
- Styrofoam trays
- paintbrush (optional)
What to do
1. Place a large piece of paper on the table or floor.
2. Pour a different color of tempera paint into each Styrofoam tray.
3. Ask children to press their hands on the tray with red paint or brush paint onto their hands with a paintbrush.
4. Ask children to make red handprints near the bottom of the paper, near the center.
5. Have them wash their hands. Ask children to press their hands into the orange paint and make handprints in an arc over the red handprints.
6. Continue with yellow, green, blue, and purple to make a rainbow of handprints.
7. Label hands with names, if desired.

Instructions
1. Ask children to wash their hands.
2. Arrange the ingredients and utensils on a table.
3. Invite the children, in turn, to create their own snack. Each child puts
applesauce in her cup, adds 1/4 teaspoon of gelatin mix, and stirs with a
plastic spoon.
4. This makes a colorful snack time treat. For holiday fun, use cherry gelatin for
Valentine's Day or lime gelatin for St. Patrick's Day.
