Materials

Assortment of materials with different textures such as sandpaper, plastic lids and caps, drinkingstraws, satin, velvet, curling ribbon, felt, fur, corduroy, corrugated cardboard, Popsicle sticks,Styrofoam, small pebbles, screen cloth, bubble packing wrap, feathers, and pipe cleaners

Tag board or cardboard, 12" x 18" (30 cm x 45 cm) sheets, one per child

Instructions

1. Place the assortment of materials on the table.

2. Invite the children to arrange the materials in a design or picture on their paper.

3. When they have finished arranging the materials, have the children glue or staple the materialsto the tag board. Encourage them to close their eyes and feel their picture, as well as the picturescreated by other children.More to doGames: Make a set of matching cards by mounting some of the textured materials on cardboardsquares, then blindfold the children and ask them to find matching pairs. Make a mystery box andfill it with various objects; invite the children to feel inside the box and guess what the objectsare.Language: Arrange buttons or shape clay into letters of the alphabet.
