Instructions
1. Ahead of time, using paper of your choice, assemble a book for each child containing six pages.Title the pages in consecutive order: A Book About Me, Owner's Page, I am Growing, My FamilyTree, My Favorites, and What is Special About Me? Under the titles on pages one through three,add the following subtitles: This is my name, Here is a picture I drew of myself, I traced aroundmy hand.
2. On the first page, help the children write their name.
3. On the second page, invite the children to draw crayon pictures of themselves.
4. Show the children how to trace their hand and have them practice on scrap paper. When theyare ready, invite them to trace their hand on page three.
5. On page four, have the children draw pictures of their family. Help them write the names oftheir family.
6. On page five, have the children draw or paste pictures of their favorite foods, colors, animals,and interests.
7. For the last page, encourage the children to think of something that is special about them—their birthday, a talent or interest, or extra-special belonging. Help the children put their wordson paper or ask them to draw a picture.
8. Use the book to get to know the children at the start of the school year or give it as a gift totheir families.More to doCircle time: If possible, invite the children to share their special interest or favorite game with theother children.Snack: Enjoy a combination of the children's favorite foods or invite the children in turn to sharetheir favorite foods with the class.
