What to do
1. Have the children draw a stem with leaves on the poster board.
2. In a bowl, mix three parts of glue with one part of water.
3. Let the children put the cloth into the mixture and swish the cloth around until it is saturated.
4. Help the children wring the excess liquid from the cloth.
5. Demonstrate how to arrange the cloth at the top of the stem, then invite the children to
arrange their own.
6. Set the flowers aside to dry for several hours. The material will stiffen as it dries.
7. Invite older children to make several flowers and arrange them in a bouquet on their paper.
More to do
Cooking: Bake meringue and lemon pudding in a pastry shell, observing the changes in the eggs
as they are beaten, then baked.
Gardening: Design a butterfly garden for the schoolyard and start the flowers from seed in the
classroom.
More art: Use colorful fabric strips for the stems instead of drawing them.
