Materials

100 objects from each child's home

Instructions

1. Write a note asking the children and their parents to count 100 things to
send to school. Invite the parents to bring the collections and stay and
share. If the collections are small, such as pennies, tape them to a piece of
tagboard.
2. Put all of the collections out, and encourage the children to touch and
explore them.
3. Ask which collections are the smallest and largest. Discuss why the
collections are all different sizes when they all have the same number of
objects.
4. Encourage the children to count the objects by 1s and then by 10s.
5. Add the total of all the items by counting by 100s.
