large bowl

mixing spoon

small containers or plastic bags for each child

Instructions

1. Ask parents to send in 100 small snack items to help celebrate the 100th day
of school (provide a list of possible ideas, such as raisins, mini-marshmallows,
cereal, goldfish crackers, dried fruit, and so on). Safety Note: Make sure
parents do not send in peanuts or peanut products.
2. Encourage parents to involve their child in this endeavor. Ask them to help
their child count the 100 items, and offer them suggestions for ways to extend
the activity. For example, if they are going to bring in 100 raisins, the parent
can ask questions such as, "What happens if we have 10 raisins and I eat three
of them?"
3. Let the children add their items to a large bowl as they enter class.
4. Once all the items have been added, mix all of the ingredients together.
5. Give the children some for a snack and also send some home to share with
parents.
