Learn Every Day About Numbers

Materials

12" x 18" cards for numbers 1 to 5

Instructions

1. Choose five children to stand in front of the group, holding the number cards
so all the children can see them. Help the children get in the correct order.
2. Ask the remaining children to close their eyes. While their eyes are closed,
move one of the five children out of order.
3. Tell the children to open their eyes and discover who is out of order. When
someone names the child and the order is restored, count out loud from one
to five as a group.
4. Repeat the activity, moving a different child out of order. After several turns,
choose a new set of children to hold the cards.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Tape some numbers to classroom items for the children to put in order:
chairs, trucks, crayon containers. Add numbers 6 to 10 after the children are
able to work successfully with 1 to 5.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
* Can each child put the number cards in the correct order?
* Can the children easily find which child is out of order?
