Materials

teaspoons for each child

maraschino cherry juice (cherries removed)

powdered sugar

softened cream cheese

graham crackers

bowls for each child

knife or tablespoon

Instructions

1. Each child places 1 teaspoon of cherry juice in a bowl.
2. The children measure 2 teaspoons of powdered sugar and 3 teaspoons of
cream cheese and add it to their bowls.
3. They blend all of the ingredients until the mixture is smooth.
4. Give each child four graham crackers and invite them to spread the cream
cheese mixture on top.
5. Teach the children subtraction as they eat their snack. Ask them to count the
number of graham crackers that are left when one graham cracker is eaten,
and so on.
Safety Note: Some children may be sensitive to red food dye. You may want
to do this activity without the maraschino cherry juice.
