Materials

Cardboard for pattern

red, white, and blue construction paper

pencils

scissors

stapler

glue

gold or silver glitter

red, white, or blue feathers

patriotic or star stickers, optional

Instructions

1. Trace the hat pattern (see next page) on a piece of cardboard.
2. Ask each child to trace the hat on a piece of red paper, blue paper, and white
paper.
3. Help the children cut out all three hats.
4. The children put a line of glue near the top of all three hat shapes and then
sprinkle the glue with glitter.
5. Help the children staple the three shapes together near the ends to make a
three-cornered colonial hat.
6. Staple a feather in the middle of the back blue piece.
7. If desired, give the children stickers to add to their hats.
8. March in a rhythm band parade wearing the hats.
