Instructions

1. Help the children punch two holes into one side of each piece of white
paper, making sure to line up the holes. Explain that these will be the inside
pages of a book.
2. Punch two holes on one side of each piece of colored paper, making sure the
holes line up with the white paper. Explain that these will be the cover of the
book.
3. Help the children put on smocks.
4. Give each child a piece of white paper, watercolor paints, a brush, and a cup
half filled with water. Ask each child to create one page for a book.
Encourage the children to paint whatever is in their imagination.
5. When the children finish their pictures, ask each child to dictate a couple of
sentences about his picture. Use a pen to write his description at the bottom
of the paper.
6. Allow the paintings to dry.
7. Ask each child to put his page in the book. Help him put one piece of yarn
through the top hole and one through the bottom hole.
8. Put a piece of colored paper on the front and one on the back to make a
cover.
9. When finished, show
the pictures to the
children and read
the words about
each one. Keep the
book on the bookshelf.
