Instructions

* Buy a book for each child or make books by folding sheets so paper in half,
adding a piece of construction paper for the cover, stapling the papers
together along the fold, and then covering the staples with duct tape.
What to Do
1. Give each child a premade book.
2. Ask the children to draw animals
on each page of the book.
3. The children glue different
materials on the animals to show
how those animals' coats feel. They
may use fur for a bear, sandpaper for
an alligator or turtle, wool for a lamb,
and so on.
4. Children usually have a lot to share about their
books, so make time for them to read their books to others.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Make sure you don't use real fur because of allergies and expense.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Observe how the children compare the materials they use. Do they use
sensory words, and do they use their early reading and writing skills?
* Do the children make real or imaginary animals? If they make imaginary
animals, ask the children to tell you where the animals live, what they eat,
and so on.
