Materials

Newspaper

Water

Dishpan

3 pie tins

Powdered tempera paint in 3 colors

Paper towels

Construction paper

Instructions

What to do
1. Ahead of time, cover the work area with newspaper and fill a dishpan with water.
2. Add powdered tempera to pie tins, one color per tin.
3. Supply each child with a paper towel and construction paper.
4. Invite the children to dip a paper towel into the water, then wring the excess water from it.
5. Ask them to dip a corner of the paper towel into one color of paint, then dab paint onto their
construction paper.
6. Repeat the process with the other two colors.
7. Allow the paintings to dry.

Games: Invite the children to play a lotto game with only blue, red, and yellow items.
More art: Use only black, white, and one other color of paint to introduce the concept of shading.
