Instructions

1. Even three-year-olds need a verbal warning before a transition. Give the
children "five-minute warnings" for transitions during the day, such as
cleanup, outdoor time, naptime, and circle time.
2. For example, tell the children, "Five minutes until clean-up time. Now is the
time to finish working on what you are doing because in five minutes, it's
time to clean."
3. You can set a timer for five minutes, or you can just give another gentle
reminder at the end of the five minutes. For example, "Time to begin
cleaning up it's been five minutes."
4. Sing your favorite clean-up song while everyone helps. Young children need
time to be able to finish up and prepare for what comes next.
