Instructions

1. Place alphabet cards in a container. When there is time before lunch or
outdoor play, ask a child to draw an alphabet card from the container. Then,
ask all the children whose names begin with that letter to stand up. Count
the ones who are standing and ask them to sit down again.
2. Repeat with other letters as time allows. Point out that for some letters, no
children will stand because there are no children in the class whose names
begin with that letter. Discuss the meaning of zero. Chart your results.
More to do Math: Bring out numeral cards and match the numeral to the number of
children standing. Chart the results.
