What to do

April is National Umbrella Month

1. Do this activity on a day when inclement weather prevents children from going outdoors.

2. Suggest an unusual type of relaxation activity and explain that children will be able to rest underneath their open umbrellas with a friend or alone.

3. Remind the children that umbrellas must remain on the floor and are not to be carried around indoors for safety reasons.

4. Let the children choose books, stuffed animals, pillows, and blankets to enhance their umbrella rest time.

5. Open umbrellas and encourage the children to get comfortable.

6. Consider singing lullabies together or reading a cozy book to the children such as Goodnight, Moon.
