Materials

  • red, yellow, green, and black felt
  • scissors
  • felt board
  • blank cassette tape

What to do

1. Cut out a traffic light outline from black felt. Cut out three 2" circles, one red, one yellow, and one green.

2. Find a recording of the song "Twinkle, Twinkle, Traffic Light" (found on the album Piggyback Songs). If this particular song is not available, substitute any of the versions of "Where Is My Red Light?" (sung to the tune of "Where Is Thumbkin?").

3. Make a recording of the children singing the song.

4. Put the traffic light, circles, and felt board in the listening center along with a recording of the song.

5. Encourage the children to listen to the song and manipulate the felt board pieces during free choice time.
