Materials 

  1. Disposable rubber gloves
  2. Textured materials (such as pebbles)
  3. Cotton
  4. String

Instructions

  1. Fill each glove with a textured material and cotton.
  2. Tie the opening of each glove tightly with string.
  3. Put the gloves in the sensory learning center. Encourage the children to describe the texture of each glove by feeling, poking, and manipulating the gloves.

1. Talk about personal grooming with the children. Ask them if they know what
a manicure is. Describe proper nail care.
2. Set up a manicure area. Arrange chairs around a table and put manicure
materials on trays. Pour a small amount of baby oil into plastic condiment
cups. Put one on each tray.
3. Make sure the children wash and dry their hands before working in the
center.
4. Let children take turns being the "manicurist" and the customer.
5. The manicurist uses a cotton swab to apply oil to the cuticle of each of the
customer's fingernails. Then she uses the swab to rub and buff the nails.
6. The child uses a tissue to remove excess oil from fingers before discarding it.
