Materials 

  1. Shoebox
  2. Scissors
  3. Variety of items (textured items or items with interesting shapes)

Instructions

  1. Cut out a hole in the lid of the shoebox and place it on the box.
  2. Without the children seeing, put an item in the box.
  3. Ask a child to guess what the item is by feeling it through the hole. Let the children take turns adding items and guessing what they are.
  4. The items can correspond with the theme of the week.

1. Tape empty paper towel or wrapping paper rolls together and paint red and
white stripes on them to make a barber pole.
2. Talk about barbers and their equipment. With children's help, demonstrate
and discuss the shave and haircut process.
3. Encourage children to visit the center and give doll or animal "clients" shaves
and haircuts.
4. Follow up with discussion about the barber service they performed.
