Instructions
1. Peruse books and walk outdoors, drawing the children's attention to the many forms of structures.Show them examples of sculptures, particularly outdoor sculptures in a garden or publicsquare.
2. Show the children how to connect the Styrofoam pieces with toothpicks.
3. Encourage the children to create three-dimensional sculptures and structures.
4. When they are finished, let the children decorate the sculptures with paper scraps, if theychoose.More to doField trip: Visit a sculpture garden or museum.Language: Invite the children to describe their sculpture to the class or in their journal.More art: On neon-colored paper, photocopy textbook pictures of traffic signs with differentshapes and attach the pictures to Styrofoam blocks with toothpicks; construct cars, trucks, andbuses from Styrofoam blocks.
