Materials

Picture pairs of objects that belong together markers computer-generated bears in two sizes scissors glue stick poster board or tagboard rubber cement laminator learning mat or pocket chart, optional

Instructions

1. Cut out picture pairs of items that go together such as shoes and socks, ball and bat, hammer and nail, lock and key, tooth and toothbrush, and so on.

2. Use markers to color the pictures.

3. Using colored clip art from the Internet, print out the desired number of computer-generated bears in two sizes.

4. Glue one object from each pair to each of the large bears.

5. Glue the corresponding mate of each picture pair to a small bear.

6. Mount the bears on poster board or tagboard using rubber cement (adult only).

7. Cut out the shapes.

8. Label the names of each object on the front or back.

9. Laminate the bear shapes for durability.

10. At circle time, give each child a small bear.

11. Place the large bears on a learning mat or in a pocket chart. Encourage each child, in turn, to place his bear next to the large bear with the corresponding object.

12. Put the activity in a center for individual use during free choice time.
