Materials

  • Different types of clothing for all types of weather, such as a bathing suit, sun suit,
  • shorts, T-shirts, overalls, sweater, jacket, hats, shoes, and so on
  • Basket
  • Stuffed bear, approximately the size of a three-month-old baby

What to do

1. This activity helps the children associate external conditions to body comfort and protection. It also teaches matching and coordinating, and it helps develop fine motor skills such as buttoning, snapping, and zippering.

2. Collect various types of clothing and store them in a basket.

3. Every day, designate a different child to be the weather person.

4. Ask the child to check the weather by looking or going outside.

5. Encourage the child to dress the Weather Bear in the appropriate clothing for that day's weather. The child will present it to the class with the weather report.

More to do

  • To extend this activity, ask the child to undress the Weather Bear from the previous day. Encourage discussion about the differences (or lack of change) in the weather from day to day. This helps children develop an understanding of time, concepts, and changes.
