Materials
Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson
Purple crayons, one for each child
White construction paper
Hole punch
Yarn or string
Instructions
1. Talk about the alphabet with the children and ask them to think about ways
that they can form the letters of the alphabet with their bodies.
2. Then divide the children into small groups, or if they know the alphabet really
well, they can do this individually.
3. Pick a group or an individual and call out a letter for them to make with their
bodies. They can stand or lie down depending on the letter. Some letters may
require more than one person. This is really fun, and the children can be so
creative.
4. You also can call out a letter and ask the children to make the letter together.
You're sure to hear, "Look at me," and "Try it this way!"
