Instructions

1. For this activity, it will be helpful for children to work with a partner, especially
when it is time to attach body parts.
2. With the children, crumple newspaper to make one body part of a "creature."
(For example, to make a "turtle creature," crumple a large ball of newspaper
to make the body, attach a smaller ball for the head, and four more balls of
newspaper for the feet. Add a tail, if desired.)
3. Encourage the children to attach this shape to another crumpled shape with
tape. Repeat the process until they finish making a creature.
4. Paint the creatures and allow time for drying.
More to do
Field Trips: Visit a local natural history museum.
Literacy: Write or dictate a "write-up" of each creature for museum visitors (see
below).
Science: Create a "creature museum." Discover the living habits (nesting, eating,
sleeping, location, and so on) of existing creatures. Or make up new creatures.
