Instructions

1. Read a book about shapes to the children.2. Go outside and ask the children to find an area they can spread out in.3. Give each child a jump rope.4. Demonstrate how to make a circle on the ground with a jump rope.5. Draw a shape on the whiteboard and encourage the children to make that shape on the ground with their jump ropes.More to do:Gross Motor: Ask the children to lay their jump ropes on the ground. Using an audible signal (such as a bell or tambourine), invite them to jump over their ropes whenever they hear the sound.More Gross Motor: Put the children into pairs and give each pair one jump rope. One partner will wiggle the jump rope while the other tries to jump over it. Ask the children to switch roles.Literacy: Use jump ropes to make letters and numbers.
