Instructions

1. Get the children's attention by holding up a bell bracelet, shaking it, and
saying, "What is this?"
2. Then pick up the rhythm sticks and do the same thing. Next pick up the
triangle.
3. Be sure to make enough noise so that the children will hear you. Then ask if
anyone would like to march around the room with you.
4. Give each child an instrument. Start singing a song, such as "The Ants Go
Marching," and march around the room.
5. March around the centers, tables, or other areas in the room. Stop singing
long enough to say, "Now let's march around this table." Hopefully, the
children will follow in a parade line. (Another adult is very helpful if you have
more than a few children to guide.)
6. After 5 to 10 minutes, it's time to transition to another activity. Use the song
to sing, "When (Kyle) goes marching around the town, he puts his bells in the
can and goes over to wash his hands. Boom! Boom! Boom! When Elisa goes
marching..."
7. This activity helps children develop locomotor skills.
