Materials

Resealable plastic bags, 12 Red, blue and yellow paint

Clear hair gel Duct tape

Scissors Glue

White construction paper, one piece per child Marker

Construction paper circles of red, yellow, blue, green, purple and orange

Instructions

1. Put 1 part red and 2 parts yellow paint into a resealable plastic bag with a 1/4 cup (60 ml) of the hair gel.

2. Seal the bag and secure the top with duct tape.

3. Ask a child to squish the bag to mix the colors. What happens?4. Repeat steps 1 to 3, using 2 parts yellow and 1 part blue in a bag with media mix, and then with equal parts of red and blue in a bag until all the bags are used.

5. Help the children chart the results with construction paper circles and glue on a piece of white paper, using + and = signs, for example, red + yellow = orange.More to doArt: Snip the corner of the resealable plastic bags and encourage the children to squeeze out the paint, making designs on finger paint paper or other shiny paper. This way the contents of the bags will not be wasted.
