Materials

  • It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles G. Shaw
  • Light blue bulletin board paper
  • White paint
  • Bulletin board, covered in white

What to do

1. Read It Looked Like Spilt Milk to the children.

2. Tear or cut the lower edge of a piece of light blue bulletin board paper into a shape that resembles the sky (What you are cutting or tearing is the horizon line.) Spread it over the length of the art table.

3. Invite one child at a time to paint a "cloud." Discuss what the children are painting.

4. Hang the "sky" at top of the bulletin board.

More to do

  • Start this bulletin board at the beginning of a spring unit. Post the words "March Winds Blow" below the sky. The following week, encourage the children to paint flowers, cut them out, and "plant" them along the bottom of the board. Add a grass border and the words "FLOWERS GROW."
