Materials

Broken crayons Resealable plastic bags, quart or liter size

Wooden hammers or wooden blocks Aluminum muffin tins

Warm, sunny day

Instructions

1. Children place a handful of broken crayon pieces of a single color into a resealable plastic bag and seal it up.

2. Pound the bag with a hammer or block until the crayons are well crumbled.

3. Empty the bags into individual muffin tins. Use a separate tin for each color.

4. Place the tins in a sunny area and check them periodically for signs of melting.

5. When the crayon bits have melted into one mass, let them cool overnight. Skewer a pre-cooked hotdog with a long wooden skewer and put it in the box. Place in a sunny spot. Rotate the skewer occasionally. The hotdog is done when it sweats.
