Instructions

1. This is a great icebreaker activity to use at a parents-only class meeting.
2. At the beginning of the year, give each family an index card and ask
them to write their names on their cards and two funny, interesting, or
unusual things about their families or children. For example, "My son
eats buckwheat pancakes with ketchup for breakfast every morning,
and my husband and I first met at a belly dancing class." "My daughter
has two security blankets called "Big Dee' and "Little Ghee,' and our
family is currently renovating our home for the third time." Explain to
the families that the information will be shared with other families.
3. Once all the parents have returned their completed cards, type up all of
the facts and use them to make a Guess Who? Game.
4. On one sheet of paper, write the heading: "Who am I?" Under the
heading, write a sentence for each family using the statements from the
cards. For example, "This little boy eats buckwheat pancakes with
ketchup, and his mom and dad met at a belly dancing class." Leave a
blank line after each statement.
5. The first time you have a parent-only event, pass out the Guess Who?
Game sheet and ask the families to talk with the other families and find
out which interesting statement describes the other families. This is a
great way for families to get to know each other.
