Materials

Unused personal-size pizza boxes and cardboard circles (available from pizza restaurants) Construction paper (black, pink, white, red, green and yellow) Red paint

Paintbrushes

Glue

Scissors

Air-dry clay

Instructions

1. In advance, cut the cardboard circles to size (they must fit into the pizza boxes). Also mix thered paint and glue to make pizza "sauce" and cut out shape toppings from constructionpaper (or have the older children cut out the shapes themselves).

2. You can cut the construction paper shape toppings out in advance or assist as children cutout their own. Talk about which shapes resemble various pizza toppings.

3. Have the children roll lengths of clay and press it around the rim of the cardboard to form a crust.

4. Tell the children to paint inside the rim with the paint/glue mixture.

5. Have them add their choice of "toppings" (the following shapes cut from constructionpaper):yellow triangles pineapplepink squares hamblack ovals black olivesred circles pepperonigreen ovals green olivessmall white rectangles onion470Toppings should stick when placed on top ofpaint/glue mixture. As the children put on the toppings,talk about their different shapes6. They can store their pizzas in the pizza boxes whenthey have dried.
