Materials

Colored cellophane, cut in l" to 2" (3 cm-5 cm) pieces

Scissors2 sheets of contact paper, 3' x 4' (1 m x 1.3 m), per child

Tape

Hole punch

Yarn

Instructions

1. Tape a large sheet of contact paper to the table, adhesive side facing up.

2. Invite the children to select pieces of cellophane and arrange them on the contact paper in anydesign.

3. When they have finished arranging the cellophane, place the second sheet of contact paperover their design, adhesive side down. Press until the layers adhere to each other.

4. Cut the layers of paper into shapes, one for each child.

5. Punch a hole in each child's shape and attach a loop of yarn to it.

6. Hang the color shapes near a window or in front of a light.More to doMath: Cut geometric shapes from construction paper, then cut out their middle and glue coloredcellophane over the opening. Attach string and hang the sun catcher shapes by the window.More art: Invite the children to place their finished product on a light table. Cut the layered contactpaper into shapes related to the seasons or holidays such as leaves, flowers, hearts, and fourleafclovers. Layer red, blue, and yellow cellophane to create secondary colors. Create a facsimileof a stained glass window using colored cellophane and construction paper. Construct a kaleidoscopeusing cellophane and paper towel and toilet paper tubes.
