1. Have you ever wondered what to do with duplicate photos, or the photoswith red eyes, closed eyes, or the ones that are blurry and out of focus? Usethem to make a memory collage! Put the photos into a small box.2. Cut out pictures from magazines, catalogs, or old calendars and add them tothe box for variety.3. Spread out the photos and pictures on a low table and encourage the childrento walk around and select favorites for their collage.4. Give each child a poster board or piece of cardboard. Encourage them to rubglue sticks onto their poster board to make it sticky.5. Show the children how to press their pictures onto the sticky poster board.6. Encourage the children to continue adding more glue and more pictures untilthey are satisfied with their collage.7. Allow them to dry.8. When the collages are thoroughly dry, the children can draw over them withmarkers, if desired.Author note: Three-year-olds relate best to photos of faces or familiar events, and love pictures of toys cut out from children's magazines and toy- or schoolsupplycatalogs. Three-year-olds also tend to fill the entire collage board withrandom abandon, covering up some pictures, and leaving spaces between others.Raw edges are common. Others will stick on only one picture and call it finished!More to doAdd other art materials such as pieces of ribbon, stickers, labels, or glitter-glue foradditional decoration and design.Language: Discuss the completed collages with the children. Encourage them topoint out and name familiar faces and things.
