Materials

2 Styrofoam cubes

patterned adhesive paper

6 pieces of collage material such as glitter, yarn, paper scraps, buttons, felt scraps, and sequins

permanent marker

glue

sturdy construction paper

Instructions

1. Use the two Styrofoam cubes to create a pair of dice. Cover both cubes with
the patterned adhesive paper. Decide what collage materials the children will
be using for their collages. Mount a sample of each collage material on the six
sides of one cube. On the other cube, label the six sides with the numbers
one through six.
2. Give each child a piece of sturdy construction paper. Let the children take
turns throwing the dice. The child who rolls names the collage material and
number that land on top.
3. The children add materials to their collages according to the dice. For example, if
the dice land with the number two and the yarn sample up, then the children
should each take two pieces of yarn and add them to their collages.
4. Continue play until the children have created a collage with which they are
satisfied.
5. Change the materials on the collage cubes by carefully peeling the clear layer
of adhesive paper off the cube. Remove the old samples and add some new
ones. Cover with adhesive paper again.
