Materials

Collection of rocks of different textures Individual wash tubs with water

Instructions

1. Set up individual tubs of water and the rock collection on a worktable.

2. Give the children time to touch and examine each of the rocks. Point out the different textures, shapes, colors and sizes.

3. Ask the children what they think will happen when they rub one rock on another? Some of the rocks are going to make marks on the others.

4. Wet the rocks and then rub them together.More to doSnack: Make peanut butter rocks by mixing together 1 cup (250 ml) peanut butter, 1 cup (250 ml) powdered milk and 1/2 cup (125 ml) honey, and rolling the mixture into small balls or "rocks."
