Riddle Me This

Sturdy pet pictures
tagboard cards

1. Ahead of time, collect pet pictures and make a rhyming riddle card for each.

I'm small and furry.
I love to run.
I live in a cage
And sleep for fun.

I'm not in a cage
Or up in the sky.
I swim and I dart
But I cannot fly.

My fur is soft
And my ears are long.
My two back feet
Are extra strong!

My two feet hop.
My two wings fly.
You can see me
Up in the sky.

2. Discuss the pet pictures, describing the characteristics of each animal.
3. Teach the children the following rhyme: Can you, can you, tell my name? Come and play my guessing game!
4. Put the riddle cards into the bag. Chant the "Can you, can you" rhyme together. Ask a child to draw a card. When the riddle is read, let the child name the animal and choose the correct picture. If help is needed, prompt the child to choose a friend to help.
