CD

stereo

lace ribbons of different colors

glue or thread

Instructions

1. Make a big show of looking around at everyone.
2. Notice the children who are doing what you asked (sitting quietly at circle,
cleaning up) and comment on a certain article of clothing of a particular color
they are wearing.
3. Let these children transition to the next classroom activity. For example, "I see
Darla and Joey are wearing light green shirts. Anyone who is wearing a light
green shirt may go to the snack table." "Anyone who has purple shoelaces may
go to the snack table."
4. Continue until all children have been dismissed to the next activity. If the
children are waiting in line, you can do this activity to help them wait. "Anyone
who is wearing a dark blue belt, shake your hands in the air." "Anyone who
has black shoes, hold out your arms like an airplane."
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip S
l This is a fun activity to do as a transition from one activity to another, such as
circle or group time to the snack table.
l Make this activity even more fun by designating two colors or two articles of
clothing, such as a blue top and blue socks or a red top and white shoelaces.
Introduce different patterns, such as stripes, polka dots, or plaid.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Ask the children to listen carefully to the color names you call out and engage
them in conversation about following directions. Are they able to identify the
colors they are wearing?
