Instructions

1. Trace around the
circle pattern to make
circle shapes on
paper. Cut out the
circles to use for faces.
(Adult-only step.)
2. Ask the children to
look through old
catalogs or magazines
and find people that
look happy, sad, angry,
silly, and scared. Help
them identify the
emotions. "Oh, that
person is smiling. She
must be happy."
3. Help them glue the pictures onto the circles. Glue a craft stick to the
back of each face.
4. Put several faces out at a time.
5. Describe an emotion. The children look for and hold up the face that
matches that emotion.
More to do Since many young children are not able to express how they feel, let them
use the face puppets to help express their feelings. They can pick out the
puppet that matches how they feel.
Encourage the children to act out their feelings. Ask them how they look
or act when they're happy, sad, and so on. For example, they can jump
gleefully around the room when happy, or stomp their feet when angry.
