Empty cardboard boxes, such as Girl Scout cookie boxes or cereal boxes
Throwaway junk such as milk tops, plastic lids, paper towel tubes, string 1" (3 cm) strips of colorful scrap paper GlueInstructions
1. Have the children glue on strips of colorful scrap paper to cover the boxes. (Butcher paper also
works well.)
2. Supply children with junk and encourage them to glue it on. Tell them to make arms, legs, faces,
etc. with the materials.
3. Show off the creations with a puppet show, and sing "The Recycle Song" below.

Field trip: Visit your local recycling center.
More art: Invite the children to work together to create a giant puppet or creature from recyclable
materials. Ask them to suggest names for the creature and then take a vote to pick one.
