Materials

Poster board, cut in 12/3" x 18" (4 cm x 45 cm) strips

Scissors

Crayons

Crepe paper streamers, assorted colors, cut in 8" (20 cm) lengths

Tape or stapler

Recorded music in various rhythms and tempos

Instructions

1. Give each child a strip cut from poster board. Invite the children to decorate their strips withcrayons.

2. When they are finished, ask them to turn the strip over to the blank side.

3. Put out the colorful streamers and have each of the children choose six streamers, each a differentcolor.

4. Help the children tape or staple one end of each streamer to the strip.

5. When the streamers are attached, staple the ends of the strip together.

6. Play a recording and encourage the children to hold the loops and dance as the streamers floatout around them.More to doField trip: Take the children to a dance performance.Language: Use music to teach opposites: fast/slow, loud/soft, solo/ensemble, choppy/smooth.More art: Attach streamers to paper towel tubes. Dance with them.
